The Lakeview is one of the best diners in Toronto. It serves old fashioned milkshakes, burgers and sandwiches with a hipster twist to it. Their tuna melt is worth crossing town. Mixed with little chunks of carrots, celery, red onion, a cilantro-walnut pesto (very light) and melted Havarti cheese served on dark rye it’s one of the best I’ve had. It comes with a choice of fries or salad – and that’s where you can be disappointed. The mixed greens they served were drenched in a sweet balsamic dressing, which was already suspicious upon the first look. After having two bites – yes, the lettuce is old. Drenching old soggy lettuce in vinaigrette doesn’t make it tastier nor more fresh. It’s an insult to your intelligence if the kitchen thinks they can fool you with over seasoning. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time, but the server did ask me if I wanted a new one, but this shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I hope in the future they will choose to throw out the old instead of trying to make a profit of it.
